PTE General Webinars

While exams around the world have been postponed we want to support you by offering a PTE general training program from Monday 20th April to Tuesday 5th May. 

The training will focus on different parts of the exam and we’ll also explore areas such as how papers are marked, how learners can revise for exams and how you can take care of yourself and your students. 

Each webinar will take place twice – at 10am and 4pm (GMT +1) using the platform Zoom. 

To register just choose the session and time you are interested in and fill in your details. 

1. An introduction to PTE General with Ben Fedigan

When? Monday 20th April 

Abstract: 

Whether you’re a PTE General veteran or a novice, it’s always a good idea to refresh your knowledge and keep up to date with what’s new. 

In this webinar we will be looking over the exam format and some of the key features that differentiate PTE General from the rest. We will take you on a tour of the teacher’s resources available to you and look at how they can help you and your students get ready for exam day.

2. Paper 1, how it’s scored (Vol 1) with Faith Kent

When? Tuesday 21st April 

Abstract: 

The focus of the first session will be Tasks 1-7 of Paper 1. We will consider exactly what is being tested by each task as well as how it is marked, so that participants have an understanding of how marks are lost and gained. Suggested approaches to each task and tips for success will be presented.

3. Paper 1, how it’s scored (Vol 2) with Faith Kent

When? Wednesday 22nd April

Abstract: 

The second session will engage with Tasks 8 and 9, focusing on what the two writing tasks are testing, and how they are marked. We will look at extracts from the marking criteria alongside some sample responses to consider the marks they have been awarded. As in the first session, approaches and tips will be offered.

4. Paper 2, how it’s scored (Vol 1) with Aline Boundy

When? Thursday 23rd April

Abstract: 

In the first session we’ll look at two of the four tasks and two of the five qualitative traits, as well as the marking criteria grid. 

We will examine two of the four tasks, which primarily test speaking, alone and at length. These are sections 10 and 12, personal information and describing a picture. 

By the end of the session, you will understand what the examiners are looking for in two tasks, and in two of the five qualitative traits: Phonological Control and Fluency. The other three qualitative traits will be addressed in the session Paper 2, how it’s scored (Vol 2).

5. Paper 2, how it’s scored (Vol 2) with Aline Boundy

When? Friday 24th April 

Abstract: 

In the second session we’ll look at the remaining two of the four tasks and the other three of the five qualitative traits. 

The two tasks covered in this session assess conversation with the interlocutor. These are section 11 – discussion (formal) – and section 13 – role play (everyday situation).

By the end of the session, you will understand what the examiners are looking for in two tasks, and in the three remaining qualitative traits: Interaction, Range and Accuracy. 

6. Preparing Reading with David Booth

When? Monday 27th April 

Abstract: 

In this webinar we will look in detail at how to prepare students for the Reading tasks in PTE General.

7. Preparing Listening with Brigette Hughes

When? Tuesday 28th April 

Abstract: 

In this webinar we will look in detail at how to prepare students for the Listening tasks in PTE General.

Listening questions are often the ones students find most difficult to answer when taking the exam. This is often because it is the speed of the recording that controls the interaction and students can’t ask the speaker to slow down. They may “freeze” due to not understanding a given word and miss parts of the text as a result.

We will share best practice tips, activities and sources for additional listening practice to ensure you have all the support you need to prepare students for the Listening tasks in PTE General.

8. Preparing Speaking with Brigette Hughes

When? Wednesday 29th April

Abstract: 

In this webinar we will look in detail at how to prepare students for the Speaking tasks in PTE General.

Students can become very nervous in a Speaking exam and get stuck on a forgotten vocabulary item, or just run out of things to say. We will help you provide a scaffolding for the Speaking exam with best practice tips, activities and suggestions for additional speaking practice to ensure you have all the support you need to prepare students for the Speaking tasks in PTE General. 

9. Preparing Writing with David Booth

When? Thursday 30th April 

Abstract: 

In this webinar we will look in detail at how to prepare students for the Writing tasks in PTE General.

10. Revision Strategies with Bartlomiej Janiak

When? Friday 1st May 

Abstract: 

So here we are: covering lesson’s material, going through units, taking tests and explaining nuts and bolts of the English language. What one needs essentially in order to succeed is the know-how of revision strategies. The knowledge of how, what and when in terms of revision exercises secures and enhances the learning process. Exam preparation needs revising as much as plants need water to grow. Use it effectively to ensure the learners’ success.

11. Taking care of your students with Bartlomiej Janiak

When? Monday 4th May 

Abstract: 

“If you do something for your students, then your students will do something for you.”

A good lesson is a place where the learning process takes place. Students leave a standard or an online classroom with the feeling of accomplishment and progress. Using high-quality materials is one thing. Next, there are unwritten rules to follow if we want our students to flourish, pass exams and develop good command of English. The webinar puts emphasis on these unwritten rules and shows how to implement them effectively in the learning process. 

12. Taking care of yourself with Bartlomiej Janiak

When? Tuesday 5th May 

Abstract: 

Behind every lesson, exam, project, prepared meal or computer program stands a human being. Take care of him and you will witness flourishment. Forget about him and you will witness decay. The webinar offers an insight into possible actions that can be taken so that people gain, preserve and use the energy essential to functioning in times of isolation and online meetings.
