What is PTE Academic for Teachers, and why should you take it?

The six modules are separated by skill, with two bonus courses added to the line-up; Introduction to PTE Academic and Automated Scoring and, Scoring: Speaking and Writing items. So, whether you need to learn the basics, or simply brush up on your marking, we’re here to guide you through the process.

The six modules of PTE Academic for Teachers
PTE Academic for Teachers is made up of six modules. Here’s what you’ll learn in each part of the course:
Module 1: Introduction to PTE Academic and automated scoring
In the first module, you’ll be introduced to the key features of PTE Academic and the skills that are tested in each part of the exam. This will include an outline of the process of registering for the test, taking the test and accessing the scores. You will also learn about the scoring method for the test and how automated scoring is used for Speaking and Writing responses.
Module 2: Speaking
In module 2, you’ll be introduced to the Speaking section of PTE Academic and the skills that are tested. Teachers must understand the five item types in the Speaking section of the test and the responses required from test takers. You will also revisit some of the key features of English pronunciation and oral fluency, while getting some valuable guidance on how to prepare test takers for this section of the test.
Module 3: Writing
Next, you’ll be introduced to the writing section of PTE Academic and the skills that are tested. Teachers must understand the two item types in the Writing section of the test and the basic instructions learners must know to complete tasks. You will also revisit some of the key features of English grammar, vocabulary, coherence, and critical thinking.
Module 4: Reading
In Module 4, you’ll be introduced to the reading section of PTE Academic and the skills that are tested. Teachers must understand the five item types in this section of the test and the basic instructions learners must know to complete tasks. You will also revisit some of the key features of extracting information from and identifying meaning in text.
Module 5: Listening
You will be introduced to the Listening section of PTE Academic and the skills that are tested. Teachers must understand the eight item types in this section of the test and the basic instructions learners must know to complete tasks. You will also revisit some of the key features of detailed listening and the importance of attitude and tone.
Module 6: Scoring: speaking and writing items
Finally, you’ll use your knowledge and skills from the earlier modules to score one sample item from selected item types from the Speaking and Writing sections of PTE Academic. You will explore the scoring rubrics for four Speaking item types and the two Writing item types and have an opportunity to practice grading sample responses.
