Pearson Teacher Education & Learning Academy is delighted to announce the launch of the Pearson English Language Teacher Development Program (Pearson ELTD), a level 6 international teaching qualification accredited by Trinity College London which is now open for applications on English.com.
Professional development at your own pace
The Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) is a brand-new teaching qualification program. It is designed for both non-credentialed educators with at least two years’ experience, and those with an initial teaching qualification and at least six months’ experience.
“The Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) program is truly the first of its kind,” says Seshni Jacobs, Director of Professional Learning & Development at Pearson – Pearson Teacher Education and Learning Academy. “I am confident that this unique asynchronous and self-guided international qualification will set the benchmark for the future development of English Language Teaching Qualifications.”
The qualification has been developed by subject matter experts at Pearson Teacher Education & Learning Academy. It will increase your understanding of pedagogical theory and help you reflect on and enhance your current teaching practice.
“Many of the teachers I meet are keen to develop further. They might not have the time or desire to do a diploma or a Masters but are looking for a structured program that they can do in their own time and at their own pace, and apply directly in their teaching,” says Chia Suan Chong, Co-author, Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT).
Finding the balance between theory and practice
The Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) program builds critical English language teaching skills to develop a deep theoretical understanding. Alongside maintaining a laser-focus on the practical approaches for student learning and engagement. The 100-hour qualification has three modules. These are spread over ten months and include 120 short, dynamic lessons. As a participant, you learn through explainer videos, webinar tutorials and pre-recorded podcasts.
What’s more, throughout the course, your progress is measured through quizzes, self-reflection, knowledge-check tests, and four formal assignments.
“We need to interact with what we learn and engage our thoughts, our emotions and our experience in order to fully process and apply our learning,” says Mike Hogan, Co-author, Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT).
“The videos, podcasts, and activities on the Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) program help teachers do just that. I also really like the short lessons, asynchronous learning structure and mobile-ready platform which enable teachers to work through the program when and where they like,” he continues.
The interactive experiences in the course are carefully crafted to improve teacher knowledge and skills within authentic practice – addressing what they genuinely use every day.
A step up in your teaching career
Although rich with foundational methodology, the Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) program is perfect for practicing teachers who are looking for strategies and exercises to implement straight away with all ages and stages of learners.
“I think the Pearson ELTD program perfectly fulfils this need,” says Chia. “It covers practical aspects of teaching, providing teachers with the impetus they need to better understand language learning, try out new ideas and approaches with their classes, and reflect on what works for them in their teaching circumstances.”
The Pearson ELTD (Trinity CertPT) qualification is the first Trinity College London accredited teaching qualification from Pearson. It forms a valuable addition to the Pearson Teacher Education and Learning Academy’s portfolio of ELT certified online learning programs.
“Trinity is delighted to announce that Pearson Teacher Education & Leadership Academy has become a validated course provider for the Trinity Certificate for Practicing Teachers (Trinity CertPT),” says Ben Beaumont, Head of Teacher Education, Trinity College London. “The course developed by Pearson is the first fully asynchronous course leading to the Trinity CertPT, offering flexibility across unit options by allowing teachers to explore different aspects of English language teaching and try out the practical ideas they are introduced to at their own pace. We’re looking forward to seeing the great outcomes from this innovative approach.”
