The Global Scale of English Learning Assessment Framework can be used alongside the GSE Learning Objectives to help teachers assess the speaking and writing proficiency of their students. Whilst the GSE Learning Objectives focus on specific functional skills, the GSE Assessment Framework describes more general features of spoken and written language which characterise different levels of proficiency: areas such as accuracy, range, coherence and cohesion.

The research project to create and level learning objectives for different groups of learners – Adults, Young Learners, learners of Professional and Academic English – is ongoing.
