We’re excited to introduce Formula – our new three-level Cambridge English exam preparation series for teens and young adults. It works equally well for both extensive and intensive courses and covers B1 Preliminary, B2 First, and C1 Advanced levels.
Formula is a uniquely flexible exam preparation course, giving you all the content and supporting classroom activity ideas you need to deliver engaging and effective lessons. Student resources
Coursebook
Formula introduces your students to the Cambridge English exam structure and teaches them the techniques they need to pass. Not only that but within the coursebook, there are 8 individual units that take you through the sections of the exam. This gives learners all the skills and confidence they need!
What’s more, Formula holds your student’s attention with unique and engaging topics. All themes have been written within the past year which means they are up-to-date and relevant while still reflecting the topics which students are likely to find in the exam. They’ll learn about things such as expressing feelings in the modern world, self-care and the evolution of our ancient survival instincts for today’s threats. The themes and exam practice are woven into the coursebook in a natural way. Even though the course is designed to help learners pass an exam, the language they learn is relevant, interesting and will last them a lifetime.
Alongside the lessons, the coursebook has dedicated sections that help students get ready for the Cambridge exams:
- A fold-out exam file booklet that has additional practice questions
- Grammar file with in-depth grammar explanations and accompanying practice exercises
- Vocabulary file to boost your students’ word bank
- Writing file which has both practice writing questions and example answers to guide students.
Interactive eBook
The coursebook is available as an interactive eBook, which can also help students with their exam preparation. The eBook allows learners to highlight, write notes, listen to activities, repeat tasks as needed. Furthermore, students are able to monitor their own learning with “check answers” and “show answers” functions to make sure they are learning in real-time.
Exam Trainer
The Exam Trainer can be used with the coursebook or as a standalone component. Full of tips and advice, your students will explore everything in order, from Reading Part 1 to Speaking Part 4 following the Test, Teach, Test method to keep your students actively participating.
Exam Trainer also includes a full Cambridge-style exam paper with audio that will help students get a real exam-day experience.
Exam Trainer Interactive eBook
The Exam Trainer Interactive eBook can also be used alone or as further reinforcement of the coursebook. Students can interact with the book; make notes, add text or highlight important sections. Students can use the exam trainer to play audio clips and videos as well as to receive instant feedback on the activities with “check answers” and “show answers” capability.
Pearson Practice English App
The app has useful videos which take students through what to expect from the exam. It breaks down each section and makes sure they really understand what is expected of them. There is also an interactive grammar course and speaking exercises to provide extra support.
Teacher resources
Teacher’s Book
The teacher’s book contains a variety of supporting classroom activities, such as introduction and wrap up tasks, additional prompts to get students talking and extra activities fast finishers. If you need a little extra support, it has all the guidance you need. The “How to” sections, in particular, offer a comprehensive breakdown of how to maximize your students’ experience with the books.
Digital Resources
The digital resources provide teachers with supporting materials that are customizable depending on the needs of the learner. The following can be accessed via the Pearson English Portal:

Presentation tool
The presentation tool is a easy to use and helps create fun and engaging lessons in both face-to-face and online classes. You can also use the presentation tool to plan your lessons ahead of time with the planning mode that includes teaching notes and easy switch to teaching mode once class has begun. All course materials are fully interactive with embedded audio and answer keys.
